DATA CENTRE AND OCEAN SERVICES

    National Oceanographic Data Centre and information services has been setup for the benefit of user community in the Institute. It has begun to exchange data with NODC's of other countries and World Data Centres. It has also become the national contact for Mean Sea Level and tides.

    The objectives of National Oceanographic Data Centre include: storage, processing retrieval of oceanographic data and dissemination of information to the user community. The NODC acts as a National repository for all types of oceanographic data pertaining to the territorial waters and EEZ of Pakistan. The NODC has basic computer facilities for storing and retrieving information.

    The main functions of the NODC are:
    1. Updating of Data files for various oceanographic data
    2. Processing, categorisation, and quality control of raw oceanographic data for adequate data management.
    3. Produce Data products in the form of charts, maps and Data filed on internationally prescribed data formats.
    4. Develop computer programmes for data processing for supplying of processed data to the user's.
