Rehabilitation of Pasni Fish Harbour
Pasni is a medium-size town and a fish Harbour. It is located on the Makran
coast on Arabian Sea about 700 km from
Karachi.
The topography of the area is marked by low jagged hills of the Makran coastal
range, while flat land is more common along the coast. “jabal zareen” is a small
hill astride a promontory (cape or Ras Jaddi) south of Pasni and marks the
highest point in the area. Shadi Kaur (river) fed by adjoining rain water
streams that drains into the Arabian Sea just north of the town. Pasni fish harbour was constructed by the
Government of Pakistan in 1989. With the passage of time, the harbour started
silting up and gradually lost its capability for boat operations. Siltation has
put the Pasni fish harbour in a dilapidated condition inflicting great
sufferings upon hundreds of fishermen who used to earn their livelihood from
fishing. It is giving a serious setback to fish exports of the country. A silted
channel at the harbour was unable to accommodate fishing trawlers and only small
fishing boats were able to use the jetty.
In connection with the Rehabilitation Program of Pasni Fish Harbour, the
Government of Balochistan awarded a task to National Institute of Oceanography
to collect the data according to the following Scope of Work.
1. Topographic Survey
2. Bathymetric Survey
3. Sediment Samples Collection
4. Establishment of Benchmark
5. Photographing The Coastal Area
